On 3 June 2025, within the framework of the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov to the Republic of Kenya, an official reception dedicated to 28 May – Independence Day and the official opening of our country’s Embassy in Kenya was held in the city of Nairobi.

 

The ceremony began with the performance of the National Anthems of Azerbaijan and Kenya.

 

In his remarks, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the participants about the legacy of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which went down in history in 1918 as the first democratic, legal and secular state in the Muslim East, the measures implemented to strengthen the independence restored in 1991, and Azerbaijan’s contributions to the agenda of peace and cooperation in the region.

 

He also highlighted the far-sighted and wise leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev during 1993–2003, as well as the political, economic and social achievements of our country under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, noting that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan were fully restored as a result of the Patriotic War in 2020 and the local anti-terror measures carried out in 2023.

 

It was noted that Azerbaijan is currently creating new realities in the South Caucasus based on sustainable peace, cooperation and development, and is promoting a post-conflict agenda focused on reconstruction, reintegration and sustainable regional cooperation.

 

It was emphasized that the expansion of Azerbaijan’s cooperation with African countries is based on mutual benefit and shared goals, and in this regard, the opening of the Embassy in Kenya marks the beginning of a new stage in the systematic and comprehensive development of Azerbaijan–Kenya relations.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov thanked the participants of the event and conveyed his sincere congratulations and gratitude to Kenyan partners for jointly celebrating the Independence Day of the Azerbaijani people, expressing confidence that this friendship and cooperation will be further strengthened in the future.

 

At the official reception, the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs of the Republic of Kenya Hassan Ali Joho delivered remarks as the guest of honor.

 

In his speech, he highly appreciated the development of friendly and cooperative relations between Azerbaijan and Kenya and shared his views on the role of our country in the international arena.

 

At the event, Azerbaijani music was performed, and video materials showcasing our country’s culture and tourism potential were presented.

 

The official reception was attended by representatives of the Government and Parliament of the Republic of Kenya, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of international organizations, public and media representatives, as well as members of the Azerbaijani community.
