On 1 May 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO, Gabriela Ramos, who was visiting Azerbaijan to participate in the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.
During the meeting, issues on the agenda of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO, as well as prospects for cooperation within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that since the restoration of its independence, Azerbaijan has closely cooperated with UNESCO and contributed to the Organization’s activities in areas such as education, preservation of cultural heritage, and the promotion of intercultural dialogue. It was emphasized that the partnership in organizing the Global Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, now held for the sixth time, is a clear example of the sustainability of Azerbaijan–UNESCO cooperation.
The UNESCO side highlighted opportunities for cooperation with Azerbaijan in areas such as intercultural dialogue, gender equality, youth engagement, and ethical issues related to the use of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided information on the work carried out in these areas in Azerbaijan.
Referring to preparations for COP29, to be hosted by Azerbaijan this year, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov underlined that Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency is aimed at promoting cooperation with various states and international organizations in addressing climate change, a field requiring a comprehensive approach.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
