No:159/25, Press release on the meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov with the newly appointed Ambassador of the State of Palestine to our country Ahmed Metani

On 17 April 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov received the newly appointed Ambassador of the State of Palestine to our country Ahmed Metani.
Ambassador Ahmed Metani presented a copy of his credentials to Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. The Minister congratulated Ambassador Ahmed Metani on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic activities in our country.
During the meeting, issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Palestine, the security situation in the Middle East and in Gaza, as well as regional peace and reconstruction efforts in the post-conflict period were discussed.
The development of Azerbaijan-Palestine cooperation in a number of areas, particularly political, economic-trade, cultural, and humanitarian fields, was discussed, and the existence of prospects for expanding partnership within regional and international organizations, including the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, was noted.
The sides discussed the current situation in the Middle East and particularly in Gaza. The importance of maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza and resolving humanitarian problems was emphasized, and it was once again noted that Azerbaijan supports the peaceful resolution of the Israel-Palestine conflict on the basis of the “two-state principle” in accordance with the norms and principles of international law, including the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.
The assistance provided by our country towards improving the humanitarian situation of the friendly Palestinian people suffering from the conflict was noted with gratitude.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also provided detailed information to the other side about the situation and realities in the region during the former conflict period, as well as in the post-conflict period, the large-scale reconstruction and restoration work carried out in the liberated territories, efforts to combat the mine threat, and the progress of the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process.
Ambassador Ahmed Metani expressed gratitude for the reception, noted that it is an honor to be appointed as the Ambassador of Palestine to Azerbaijan, and stated that he will spare no effort to further develop the existing diplomatic relations between our countries in his capacity as Ambassador.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
