19 March 2025 19:23

On 19 March 2025, a telephone conversation was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Caspar Veldkamp.

During the phone call, various aspects of Azerbaijan–Netherlands relations, as well as the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period were discussed.

The importance of mutual visits between the two countries, contacts within the framework of various international events, and the mechanism of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs for the purpose of discussing the current state and prospects of bilateral relations was noted.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the other side in detail about the current situation and realities in the region, as well as the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization process. Despite the conclusion of negotiations on the text of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, it was emphasized that the existence of territorial claims against our country in the Constitution of Armenia, as well as the position demonstrated by the Armenian side regarding the Minsk Group and other relevant structures of the OSCE, constitute obstacles, and that the elimination of these obstacles is essential for the signing of the Agreement.

At the same time, the Minister provided information on the judicial process of separatist leaders and individuals of Armenian origin accused of committing large-scale crimes against Azerbaijan, stating that following the anti-terror measures, Azerbaijan demonstrated humanitarianism by allowing more than 10,000 representatives of illegal Armenian armed formations to leave the country. It was noted that the detained persons are accused of crimes against humanity, and it was emphasized that the smear campaign conducted against Azerbaijan regarding the alleged groundlessness of these detentions has no basis. In this regard, information was provided on the opinion published on 13 March 2025 by the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which rejected the claims of the Armenian side on this issue.

During the phone call, an exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
