On 1 March 2026, a telephone conversation held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
During the conversation, the situation arising from the military operations in Iran and the resulting escalation in the region was discussed.
The Iranian Minister briefed his counterpart on the current situation and the measures being taken.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed serious concern over the tragic intensification of the situation in the region and conveyed condolences on behalf of Azerbaijan regarding the passing of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and the innocent civilians who lost their lives.
The hope was expressed that the military operations would be halted promptly and that the situation would be resolved solely through dialogue and diplomatic means, in accordance with the norms and principles of international law.
It was also emphasized that Azerbaijan’s territory cannot be used by any country against its neighbor and friendly state, Iran.
An exchange of views on other matters of mutual interest was also included in the telephone conversation.
