Joint Press Conference of Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini
Elmar Mammadyarov: Ladies and gentlemen! We are sorry that we have time limitation as the conference has started lately. As you may know, Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy is on a working visit in Azerbaijan. Today she has been received by Mr. President. Afterwards, we had a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We have had discussions both with tete-a-tete and also with participation of the delegations and we deeply analyzed the issues. The Azerbaijani side has presented the European Union the draft agreement on strategic cooperation. We held discussions on what we should do to start working on the draft agreement presented in Riga, in May, 2015. The relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the European Union are expanding day by day. As you know, today Baku hosted a very important event on energy issues, the Southern Gas Corridor. After the event declaration was issued. We do believe that everything will be as it is planned. The natural gas of Azerbaijan will be delivered to the European markets by 2018. I informed Mrs. Mogherini about the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the position of Azerbaijan, also the stance of international community and international organizations on this conflict, especially the relevant resolutions of UN Security Council. We seek the resolution of this conflict. Because we don’t believe it to be labeled as “frozen” conflict. Therefore, we call on the European Union to make joint efforts with the Minsk Group in order to achieve progress in the resolution of the conflict. Because it is now more than 25 years that this conflict has not been solved.
