Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation led by Senator Vannino Chiti, Chairman of the permanent commission on European Union Policy of Senate of the Italian Republic

At the meeting, the sides exchanged their views on the current status of Azerbaijan-Italy, Azerbaijan-European Union relations and ways of developing them, cooperation in the fields of economy and energy, as well as Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. Stressing their satisfaction with the bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy, they noted its positive impact on Azerbaijan-European Union relations, as well. 

Mentioning that Azerbaijan is one of the important partners for both Italy and European Union, Senator Vannino Chiti told that his country attaches great importance to the cooperation in all fields with Azerbaijan. He emphasized that the projects TAP and TANAP which are the important components of the large-scale energy project - Southern Gas Corridor constitutes strategic importance for the European Union, particularly for Italy.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov briefed about the development perspectives of Azerbaijan-Italy and Azerbaijan-European Union relations, the policy pursued by our country in that regard. He told that the Agreement on Strategic Cooperation signed between Italy and Azerbaijan contributes to the development of strategic relations.

Informing about the latest situation on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov mentioned that all international community, including OSCE MG co-chairs accept the fact of unacceptability and unsustainability of the current status-quo and furthermore added that in order to achieve progress in the settlement of the conflict, according to the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, the armed forces of Armenia have to be withdrawn from all occupied territories of Azerbaijan. 

At the meeting, the sides underlined the importance of advancing the relations between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Italy, as well as expanding the cooperation in the fields of culture and tourism.

They also praised the projects implemented by Heydar Aliyev Foundation on restoration of cultural monuments in Italy.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on regional issues of mutual concern.
