Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation headed by Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Türkiye who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan.
Elmar Mammadyarov called the first visits of officials from Azerbaijan to Ankara and from Türkiye to Baku a pleasant tradition. Minister expressed satisfaction with high-level development of relations and exemplary partnership between two brotherly countries. Elmar Mammadyarov stressed that energy and transportation projects of global importance which Azerbaijan and Türkiye have implemented are striking examples of strategic partnership. Furthermore he added that Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, which is expected to function soon, is another successful initiative of this kind.
Minister expressed his most sincere congratulations to brotherly people of Türkiye on the parliamentary elections held on November 1.
Touching upon the situation in the South Caucasus region, Elmar Mammadyarov highlighted that Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict is still unsettled due to aggressive and non-constructive position of Yerevan and added that this remains a major hurdle for peace and security in the region. He also emphasized that for settlement of the conflict at first Armenia must withdraw its occupying forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. He noted that Russian proposal on settlement of the conflict was presented to Armenia on behalf of the Minsk Group Co-chairs.
Mevlut Çavuşoğlu expressed his pleasure on his first official visit to Azerbaijan in the capacity of Foreign Minister. He stressed that Türkiye highly appreciates the participation of Azerbaijan at the G-20 Summit held in Ankara on November 16 and its contribution to the discussions.
He noted that Türkiye has always supported the position of Azerbaijan on Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict and other issues.
Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu expressed his congratulations to the people of Azerbaijan on the successful parliamentary elections held on November 1.
He highlighted the important role of Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye, Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan-Türkiye and Azerbaijan-Iran-Türkiye trilateral formats in the promotion of regional cooperation.
Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that terrorism is a menace for the whole world and stressed the importance to further enhance the bilateral ties in the fight against terrorism.
He also expressed his assurance that BTK railway, which has an important role in the development of transport infrastructure of the region, will be put into operation soon.
Cooperation within international organizations, regional and global issues of mutual interests were discussed at the meeting as well.
