Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Albert Frick, Chairman of the Parliament of Liechtenstein within his official visit

Albert Frick recalling his visit to Azerbaijan last year, as well as his participation at the closing ceremony of the First European Games held in Baku, noted the dynamic development and achievements of Azerbaijan. He emphasized steady development of sports in Azerbaijan and commended the high achievements of our national team in Rio Olympic Games. 

He also noted his meeting and fruitful discussions with Oktay Asadov, Chairman of Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Strasbourg and in this context, reaffirmed the importance of parliamentary dimension of cooperation in moving forward the ties between our countries.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov noted that Albert Frick’s visit to Azerbaijan last year provided new opportunities for furthering the political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein. The importance of building on the existing potential to promote cooperation was also highlighted. 

Informing his interlocutor about the ongoing fundamental economic reforms in our country, as well as the large-scale transport and energy projects implemented with the initiative and participation of Azerbaijan in the region, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov drew attention to the broad opportunities for the development of economic cooperation between the two countries. He invited the companies of Liechtenstein to get more actively involved in the non-oil sector of Azerbaijan's economy.

Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov briefed about the ongoing negotiation process. Added that the existence of Armenian armed forces in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan remains a major threat for the regional peace and security.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov stressed the necessity of ensuring the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions in order to change the unacceptable and unsustainable status quo and achieve a progress in the settlement of conflict. 

At the meeting the sides exchanged their views on the cooperation within international organizations and the ways of enhancing inter-parliamentary relations.
