Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation headed by Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner on European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations.

On April 8, 2015 Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation headed by Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner on European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations.

At the meeting the sides highly appreciated the current level of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union.

Stressing out that Azerbaijan has a strategic partnership with most of EU member states, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov underlined the importance of establishing strategic partnership with the European Union.

At the meeting the sides noted the partnership on energy issues between Azerbaijan and the European Union and the importance of TAP and TANAP projects.

Giving a brief information about the negotiation process on Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov highlighted that, it is necessary for the EU to show the unique approach in the resolution of the conflict as other European institutions. Saying that the current status-quo is noncontinuous and unacceptable, Minister Elmat Mammadyarov added that for the resolution of the conflict as well as changing the status-quo, first and foremost, the armed forces of Armenia has to be withdrawn from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said that in case of the resolution of the conflict and the elimination of the aggression and occupation new opportunities will be created for the regional development

Noting that the supremacy of law is provided in Azerbaijan, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said that systematic democratic development of Azerbaijan is continued.

At the meeting the sides underlined the importance of next summit of the Eastern Partnership Initiative which will be held in Riga.

Also the sides noted the necessity of further deepening the cooperation in science, education, humanitarian and other fields.

At the meeting the sides also discussed the regional and global developments and the other issues of mutual concern.
