The next round of political consultations were held between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Latvia
On January 21, 2014 the next round of political consultations were held between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Latvia.
At the consultations Azerbaijan and Latvia were respectively represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrejs Pildegovičs.
Noting the fruitful bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia within the international and regional organizations, especially European Union, Khalaf Khalafov added that two countries have a great potential to further the relations in political, economic, education, agriculture and other fields.
Expressing his satisfaction with the current level of relations between two countries, Andrejs Pildegovičs informed about upcoming events to be hosted in Latvia on the sidelines of Latvian Presidency to the Council of the European Union and added that would be pleased to see Azerbaijan’s participation at those events. Noting the importance of mutual high level visits in promotion of relations, Andrejs Pildegovičs said that several visits are planned for this year.
Giving a brief information about Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Khalaf Khalafov noted the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia, violation of the fundamental rights of more than one million Azerbaijanis at the result of aggression and ethnic cleaning and double standards attitude of the European Union’s in regards with this conflict. Furthermore, he added that this conflict constitutes major threat for peace and security in the region and emphasized the importance of a common approach by EU in regards with all conflicts.
Andrejs Pildegovičs stressed that the territorial integrity and sovereignty are fundamental principles for Latvia.
At the meeting the sides also discussed the regional and global developments and the other issues of mutual concern.
