No:532/22, Press release on the meeting between Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Toivo Klaar, the Special Representative of the European Union for the South Caucasus

On November 26, 2022, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Special Representative of the European Union for the South Caucasus, Toivo Klaar.

 

During the meeting, efforts on the process of normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and possible next steps were discussed.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the counterpart about the elements of the peace agreement drafted based on the 5 basic principles presented by Azerbaijan and the discussions held in Washington on the comments of the Armenian side. Detailed information was given to the counterpart that the Armenian side continues military activities against Azerbaijan in gross violation of the provisions of the Trilateral Statement signed between the leaders, the landmine threat and the fact of detection, few days ago, of new landmines produced in Armenia in 2021. It was emphasized that the implementation of commitments related to the mutual opening of communications in the region is important and that Armenia has not yet fulfilled its obligations in this direction. At the same time, the views of the Azerbaijani side regarding the reintegration of the Armenian residents living in Karabakh were brought to the attention of the counterpart.

 

Special representative Toivo Klaar noted that the European Union intends to continue the efforts to establish peace and stability in the region and open communications. He stressed the importance of the normalization process and result-oriented negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

 

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on Azerbaijan-European Union relations.
