No:467/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Carlos Pinto Pereira, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau

On 2 December 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the delegation headed by Carlos Pinto Pereira, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, within the framework of his visit to our country.

 

The tête-à-tête meeting between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister Carlos Pinto Pereira then continued in an expanded format with the participation of delegations from both sides.

 

At the expanded meeting, prospects for bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Guinea-Bissau, and cooperation opportunities in the political, economic, humanitarian, tourism, energy and other fields were discussed.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the important role of mutual contacts between our countries, including high- and highest-level visits, in the development of our cooperation, and in this direction, the importance of the visit of the President of Guinea-Bissau to Azerbaijan within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change hosted by our country, as well as the meeting between the heads of the two countries during the visit, was noted.

 

The importance of putting into operation the political consultations mechanism in terms of discussing the development prospects of relations between the two countries was underlined. The expansion of economic-trade relations, exchange of experience in the development of natural resources and provision of public services, as well as the use of scholarship programs and opportunities in cooperation in the fields of education and organization of trainings were emphasized as necessary.

 

In particular, it was highlighted that we are ready for cooperation on the application of the “ASAN service” model in the field of public services provided to citizens.

 

It was noted that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to further developing relations with the countries of the African continent, including Guinea-Bissau. In this direction, in particular, the importance of the resolution titled “Ensuring equitable, affordable, timely and universal access for all countries to vaccines in response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic”, adopted at the initiative of our country during our Chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as the two appeals announced in the direction of supporting Africa and Small Island Developing States in the post-pandemic period, was stressed.

 

The importance of continuing joint activities hereafter in the direction of advancing our common interests within the framework of multilateral platforms, particularly the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement, was noted.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also provided information on the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, large-scale restoration and construction works carried out in the liberated territories, efforts to combat the mine threat, as well as the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization and peace agenda.

 

Later, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister Carlos Pinto Pereira signed the Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

 

At the end, the Ministers made statements at the press conference organized on the outcomes of the meeting.
