No:464/25, Press release on the visit of Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic

On 8–9 December 2025, a delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov paid a visit to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
During the visit, the first political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Laos were held, co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Maythong Thammavongsa.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the current state of relations between the two countries, as well as prospects for expanding and developing cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian and other fields.
Deputy Minister E. Mammadov informed the counterpart in detail about the current situation in the region, the mine clearance process in the liberated territories, as well as reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.
The meeting also discussed prospects for cooperation between the two countries within international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which Laos is a member.
During the visit, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation held meetings with the Vice President of the National Assembly of Laos, Sounthon Xayyachak, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, Thongsavanh Phomvihane.
Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov also gave interviews to leading Lao media outlets on the current state and development prospects of Azerbaijan–Laos relations.
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, a formal reception was held on 9 December 2025 in Vientiane, organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan accredited to Laos. Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, Thongsavanh Phomvihane, who attended as an honorary guest, jointly welcomed the participants and delivered remarks.
Members of the Azerbaijan–Laos Friendship Association, consisting of Lao alumni who previously studied in Baku, also attended the event.
