No:455/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Pere Joan Pons Sampietro, Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

On 18 November 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Pere Joan Pons Sampietro, Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (PA), who is on a visit to our country within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
At the meeting, issues standing on the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the OSCE, the regional situation, as well as prospects for cooperation within the framework of COP29 were discussed.
The sides stated that the existence of intensive dialogue between our country and the OSCE PA causes satisfaction, and that parliamentary diplomacy, including mutual visits within this framework, is important in terms of discussing issues of common interest.
It was stated that the threat of climate change poses a threat to human security and sustainable development, and that strengthening efforts to eliminate the consequences of climate change observed in our region and our world and supporting the most vulnerable groups in this direction are priorities of our COP29 Presidency.
It was noted that a number of successes achieved in the negotiation process conducted within the framework of our Presidency, in particular the agreement on the agenda of the session from the first day, the achievement of agreement on Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement and the increase by financial institutions of the annual climate finance commitment from 75 billion to 170 billion US dollars, cause satisfaction.
The other side was also informed about the history of the Armenia–Azerbaijan conflict, the consequences of Armenia’s military occupation, the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, as well as the course of the regional peace process.
The Vice-President congratulated our country on the occasion of the COP29 Presidency and wished success in its Presidency activities. It was stressed that importance is attached to efforts to combat climate change within the framework of the OSCE.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
