On 15 November 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Ghada Waly, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

 

At the meeting, issues of cooperation in the direction of combating transnational crime, particularly illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, as well as possible prospects for cooperation within the framework of our country’s COP29 Presidency, were discussed.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about cooperation between the relevant institutions of our country and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, as well as joint events implemented within the framework of COP29.

 

The importance of training and education issues on combating transnational crimes was stressed, and it was stated that joint projects for employees of various institutions in this direction could be useful.

 

It was emphasized that our country has put forward a number of important initiatives within the framework of the COP29 Presidency, and in this direction, the “Truce Appeal”, which emphasizes the link between climate change and international peace, is particularly commendable.

 

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
