At the meeting, prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and CARICOM, as well as initiatives that may be implemented within the framework of our country’s COP29 Presidency, were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, noting that the first visit by CARICOM to our country is a good opportunity for developing Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the Community, highlighted the importance of increasing such contacts in terms of discussing existing opportunities for cooperation.

In particular, it was noted that during Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, humanitarian assistance was provided by our country to more than 80 countries in total, including 20 small island states, and that 12 CARICOM Member States were also among these countries.

The importance of developing relations between Azerbaijan and CARICOM Member States, as well as between our peoples, was noted, and in this direction, the importance of cooperation in the field of education and scholarship programs implemented by our country was stressed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, speaking in detail about Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency, its main priorities and directions, thanked CARICOM for its support for our country’s initiatives, particularly for the holding of the Summit of Small Island Developing States, and stated that we are ready to cooperate more closely in the field of combating climate change during our Presidency.

Secretary-General Carla Barnett noted that despite the fact that the COP29 Presidency is a sufficiently complex platform requiring responsibility, the session was organized at a high level by our country, and congratulated our country on this occasion and wished success during the Presidency.

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
