No:442/22, Information of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly Csaba Kőrösi

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, representative of Hungary, Csaba Kőrösi, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the UN General Assembly in New York.


At the meeting, views were exchanged on Azerbaijan's activities within the UN, cooperation with UN specialized agencies, as well as the future actions and other issues on the agenda. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized a number of large-scale initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan during the 30-years of its membership of the UN, as well as its important contributions to the work of the UN. It was also noted that Azerbaijan is a member of the UN organizations, and is active as the chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement. The visits of the UN leadership to Azerbaijan in recent years, as well as the discussions that took place were recalled. Effective cooperation with the office of the President of the UN General Assembly, as well as the active participation of Azerbaijan in the discussions on the issues on the agenda were noted.


Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the General Assembly President on the current situation in the region, including the restoration and reconstruction work in the liberated territories, mine threats, as well as the steps taken by Azerbaijan towards the normalization of relations with Armenia. Minister noted that despite the provocations and the policy of delaying the processes by Armenia, Azerbaijan will continue its efforts in all important directions to ensure peace and stability in the region, including the signing of the future peace agreement, border delimitation, opening of all communications, as well as other issues.


The President of the UN General Assembly, Csaba Kőrösi noted that Azerbaijan is one of the most active member states of the UN and congratulated Azerbaijan on the 30th anniversary of its UN membership.


Csaba Kőrösi highly regarded the successful chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement by Azerbaijan. He expressed his appreciation for the globally important initiatives put forward by the President of Azerbaijan on combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

UNGA President expressed his appreciation towards Azerbaijan's sustainable peace-building efforts in the post-conflict period and reconstruction work in the region. At the same time, he noted that the situation in the region is a cause for concern, and highlighted the importance of solving the difficulties at the political level. The need for joint action in the field of demining the territories of Azerbaijan, considering the ample capacity of the UN for demining was noted.

 

Exchange of views took place on priority issues of the General Assembly presidency, including work with youth, as well as economic stability, financial restructuring, and other topics. Other issues of mutual interest on the UN agenda were also discussed.
