No:422/24, Press release on the next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Belgium

On 21 October 2024, next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of Belgium was held in Baku.

 

The delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev while the delegation of the Kingdom of Belgium was led by Director General for Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jeroen Cooreman.

 

During the consultations, political interactions between Azerbaijan and Belgium were addressed, as well as the significance of reciprocal visits and meetings within international events for maintaining a sustainable political dialogue was noted.

 

The importance of boosting trade turnover for fostering economic relations and taking advantage of cooperation opportunities in the fields of energy, transport, and high technologies was underlined, as well as discussions on strategic energy and transportation projects implemented at the initiative and participation of our country were discussed.

 

It was mentioned that increasing interactions amongst peoples in the fields, such as culture and education would be beneficial.

 

During the meeting, the sides discussed views on cooperation within international organizations, preparations for the 29th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be hosted by Azerbaijan in November, and the work that has been done.

 

Regional issues were also in the spotlight at the consultations. The other side was informed about the post-conflict situation in the region, Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process, the steps taken by Azerbaijan to establish lasting peace in the region, landmine threat in our liberated territories, large-scale restoration and construction works carried out in these area.

 

The sides discussed issues on the international agenda, and other topics of mutual interest.
