No:418/25, Press release on consular consultations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom

On 31 October 2025, the first consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom were held in the city of London.
At the consular consultations, the delegation of Azerbaijan was led by the Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Emil Safarov, and the delegation of the United Kingdom was led by the Director of the Consular and Crisis Directorate of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Sarah Taylor and the Deputy Head of the Central Asia and Eastern Neighbourhood Department Mark Clayton.
The consultations were attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Elin Suleymanov, officials of the foreign policy bodies of both sides, representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as staff of the United Kingdom Home Office dealing with migration, visa and legal assistance issues.
During the consultations, the current state and prospects of relations between the two countries in the consular sphere, including the signing of bilateral documents in relevant areas and opportunities for the digitalization of consular services were reviewed.
Within the framework of the consultations, discussions were held on ensuring the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens of the two countries, visa issues, as well as crisis management.
The importance of exchanging experience on recent innovations implemented in the consular sphere, as well as strengthening cooperation in the fields of migration, education, justice, and legal assistance in civil and criminal matters, including extradition, was emphasized.
An agreement was reached to hold the next round of consular consultations in the city of Baku.
