No:410/21, Information of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the meeting in video conference format of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia of the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO) Gwi-Yeop Son 

November 2, 2021, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Gwi-Yeop Son, Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia of the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UNDCO), in a video conference format.   

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stressed that Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to the cooperation with the UN. Noting that the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in our country is in the spotlight, the Minister brought to the attention of the opposite side the important steps taken by Azerbaijan in this direction, including the fact that Azerbaijan became the first country in the former USSR to represent Voluntary National Review at high-level political forums held under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also spoke about the initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan in the fight against COVID-19 during its chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement, including the initiative to distribute vaccines fairly around the world, providing assistance to more than 30 countries through the WHO.        

Minister also informed his interlocutor about the grave consequences of the former conflict, the new realities of the post-conflict period, the restoration and reconstruction work carried out in the liberated areas. It was noted that we are interested in cooperating with the UN as an international partner in restoration and rehabilitation works, and work is underway in this direction with a number of UN agencies.

 

Ms. Gwi-Yeop Son thanked Jeyhun Bayramov for supporting cooperation for international development and for the successful chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). Recalling that 2022 is the 30th anniversary of UN-Azerbaijan cooperation, UNDCO Regional Director noted the organization of relevant events in this regard.

           

It was noted that the UN highly appreciates the intention of our country to normalize relations. It was stressed that the UN is ready to take an active part in the process of restoration of territories and peace-building in the region, as well as in any activity aimed at normalizing relations between the two countries and to support Azerbaijan's efforts.


At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
