No:371/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Asad Majeed Khan, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization

On 25 September 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Asad Majeed Khan, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), within the framework of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, the sides conducted discussions on cooperation issues standing on the agenda between Azerbaijan and the ECO, as well as prospects for cooperation within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to cooperation with the ECO, and that Azerbaijan is always ready and interested in contributing to the expansion of regional cooperation within the framework of the Organization.
It was noted that the expansion of cooperation in the fields of economy, energy security and transport-communications is among the priority directions for both sides.
The importance of expanding cooperation among the member states of the Organization and thereby contributing to common economic development in the region was emphasized.
In accordance with the areas of activity and goals of the Organization, the importance of expanding intra-regional and inter-regional trade was once again emphasized.
The other side was informed about the current regional situation, restoration and reconstruction works carried out in the liberated territories, as well as the current state of the normalization and peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Secretary General Asad Majeed Khan stressed that Azerbaijan’s active and productive participation in the activities of the Organization is highly appreciated, and that our country is considered a reliable partner for the ECO member states.
The Secretary General stated that the ECO attaches special importance to the idea of transition to a green and clean environment, and that they are ready to provide relevant support for the implementation of steps and initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan in this direction.
The importance of the selection of the city of Shusha as the tourism capital of the Economic Cooperation Organization for 2026 was noted, and ideas were voiced regarding possible joint events in that year.
Along with this, at the meeting, an exchange of views was conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
