No:339/19, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Tilak Marapana, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on the sidelines of the 18th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku
At the meeting, the interlocutors expressed satisfaction over the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. It was noted that there are prospects for enhancing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Sri Lanka in both political and trade-economic fields. In this regard, the sides noted the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the field of civil aviation and other areas.
The sides stated that the use of the mechanism of Foreign Ministerial consultations as well as coordination of efforts within the Intergovernmental Commissions could give additional impetus to the development of bilateral relations.
The importance of solidarity within the UN, Non-Aligned Movement and other international platforms was emphasized. In this context, Minister Mammadyarov said that during its NAM Presidency Azerbaijan will make every effort to make the Organization able to respond to contemporary challenges and strengthen its ties with the UN and other organizations.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka T.Marapana expressed hope for the successful Presidency of Azerbaijan in NAM and further development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The sides also exchanged views on other global and regional issues of mutual interest.
