Your Excellencies,
Participants of the Conference!
Ladies and gentlemen,
First of all, I would like to welcome all of you in Azerbaijan.
We are pleased to see the growing international support for the State of Palestine. I would like to reaffirm Azerbaijan’s full support to the brotherly people of Palestine in their struggle for achieving peace, stability, and sustainable development. Azerbaijan consistently stands for the two-state solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine.
A few years ago, with the aim of helping the State of Palestine, Azerbaijan hosted a constituent conference of the Islamic Financial Safety Network and a donor conference in support of the development of the city of Jerusalem. In July 2017, an international conference on the issue of Jerusalem was held in Azerbaijan with the participation of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, the United Nations Coordination Office for Humanitarian Affairs, the OIC, and various non-governmental and civil society organizations. The conference adopted a statement condemning the occupation of East Jerusalem and the restrictions imposed on believers performing their prayers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Today, as always, we stand by the Palestinian people.
In November 2018, upon the request of the Palestinian authorities, Azerbaijan hosted the Conference of the Ambassadors of the State of Palestine in Asia.
As you know, in April 2018, in the capacity of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Troika, Azerbaijan hosted the 18th Mid-term Ministerial Meeting of the NAM, titled “Promotion International Peace and Security for Sustainable Development”. Within the framework of this event the meeting of NAM Ministerial Committee on Palestine was organized. In the Final Baku Declaration were reiterated urgent calls for serious, collective efforts to bring a complete end to the violations.
The Republic of Azerbaijan always supports Palestinian people in difficult times and is committed to Islamic solidarity and a vivid example of this support is the allocation of $ 200,000 to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in October 2018.
We in Azerbaijan clearly understand the sufferings of Palestinian people as people of Azerbaijan also suffer from the occupation of our lands by neighboring Armenia. Therefore, our support to the Palestinian people is coming from the bottoms of our hearts.
