On 27 August 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan, during his working visit to Türkiye.
During the meeting, the sides discussed various aspects of the existing allied relations between the two countries, including political, security, defense, economic-trade, energy, transport-communication, and humanitarian dimensions, as well as regional and international security issues.
The importance of political dialogue between the leaders of the two countries, as well as mutual visits and contacts, in the development of the strategic alliance based on brotherhood and friendship between Azerbaijan and Türkiye was emphasized.
It was noted with satisfaction that the historic Shusha Declaration, which formalizes our alliance, has already produced practical results in advancing cooperation prospects across a number of areas.
The admission of students this year to the Türkiye–Azerbaijan University, an initiative of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, as well as the enrollment of high-scoring students, was welcomed. The strong interest in the university was commended, and it was emphasized that this would provide additional impetus to cooperation in the field of education.
It was noted that our bilateral cooperation continues within the framework of regional and international organizations such as the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Organization of Turkic States, the Economic Cooperation Organization, as well as within various other multilateral formats. It was highlighted that our country places particular focus on enhancing cooperation with member states of the Organization of Turkic States, which we consider our family. At the same time, it was noted that cooperation in trilateral and quadrilateral formats makes a significant contribution to regional stability and security.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also provided detailed information on our country’s chairmanship of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
The other side was also informed about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, as well as threats to the regional peace and normalization agenda. It was emphasized that ongoing territorial claims against Azerbaijan and brotherly Türkiye enshrined in the constitution and other legislative acts of Armenia, as well as Armenia’s policy of large-scale militarization, constitute major threats to the peace process.
The political and moral support provided by Türkiye to Azerbaijan during the 44-day Patriotic War, as well as its active participation in reconstruction and restoration works in the Garabagh region, was highly appreciated.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
