No:305/24, Press release on the meeting between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Head of the Election Observation Mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Ditmir Bushati

On 31 July 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the Head of the Election Observation Mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Ditmir Bushati.
During the meeting, issues related to preparations for the early parliamentary elections to be scheduled for 1 September this year, as well as international obligations in this regard, were discussed.
The Minister provided detailed information to the other side on the consistent, systematic and intensive steps taken to ensure that the upcoming elections, like the presidential elections conducted earlier this year, are conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner, as well as on the measures related to the participation of international observers in the elections.
It was emphasized that the fact that the parliamentary elections, following the presidential elections, will for the first time cover the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation is a historic milestone. It was noted that the necessary conditions have been created to ensure that the elections are organized at a high level, in full compliance with the requirements of legislation and international standards.
At the same time, the importance of election observation missions applying an objective and impartial approach in observing the elections in accordance with relevant rules and their mandates was highlighted.
The Head of the Mission noted that a press conference will be held on 1 August regarding the launch of the observation mission and provided information on the summary of activities to be carried out by the mission over the next six weeks.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
