No:291/25, Press release on the meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov and Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Mohammad Naeem Wardak
On 2 July, 2025, Elnur Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Mohammad Naeem Wardak, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan in Baku.
During the meeting, the sides discussed cooperation between Azerbaijan and Afghanistan in various fields, including economy, trade, transit and transportation, diplomacy, humanitarian affairs, consular services, and other areas, emphasizing the importance of further strengthening bilateral ties.
Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov expressed appreciation for Afghanistan's unequivocal support of Azerbaijan's just position during the past conflict.
Significance of the upcoming 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization – expected to be attended by the Afghan delegation—was also noted.
Deputy Minister Mohammad Naeem Wardak thanked the Azerbaijani side for the invitation to participate in international events, highlighting that such initiatives promote dialogue and mutual understanding between countries.
The two sides also exchanged views on current regional developments.
