No:288/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade and Federal Cultural Institutions of the Kingdom of Belgium Hadja Lahbib

On 10 July 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade and Federal Cultural Institutions of the Kingdom of Belgium, Hadja Lahbib, on the sidelines of the NATO Summit.

 

During the meeting, prospects of the bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda, as well as the existing regional situation in the post-conflict period, were discussed.

 

It was noted that mutual visits and contacts during international events between the two countries make important contributions to the discussion of cooperation issues. The importance of further developing the existing cooperation was emphasized.

 

It was highlighted that our country’s hosting of the COP29 this year brings to the forefront the prospects for cooperation in the field of combating climate change.

 

Opportunities for cooperation within regional and international organizations, particularly relations with the European Union, were discussed in detail.

 

Providing detailed information on the current regional situation and realities, the normalization and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the extensive mine threat, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that Armenia’s militarization policy poses a threat to the peace agenda. Informing about the negotiations on the peace agreement, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that despite significant progress on the text of the peace agreement, ongoing territorial claims against our country in the Constitution of Armenia remain an obstacle to lasting peace.

 

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
