On 9 July 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, Javier Colomina, on the sidelines of the NATO Summit.

During the meeting, aspects of the Azerbaijan–NATO cooperation agenda, including security, defense, energy security, protection of critical infrastructure, education, as well as regional and international security issues, were discussed.

Satisfaction was expressed with the successful continuation of the 30-year partnership within the framework of the Partnership for Peace program, which defines Azerbaijan’s cooperation with NATO, in an atmosphere of mutual understanding.

Providing information on our country’s presidency of the COP29, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that our COP29 presidency is another clear example of our efforts to address global challenges.

Speaking about the existing security situation in the region in the post-conflict period, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov drew attention to the continued mine threat against civilians by Armenia, as well as the fact of Armenia’s rapid militarization.

At the same time, it was recalled that Azerbaijan, as the initiator of the key elements of the peace process with Armenia, is an interested party in ensuring peace and stability in the region. Despite significant progress on the draft peace agreement, ongoing claims against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country in the Constitution of Armenia were noted.

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
