On 28 June 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Assistant Secretary of State of the United States for European and Eurasian Affairs, James O’Brien, who is on a visit to our country.

During the meeting, issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda between the two countries, as well as the current state and prospects of the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia on a bilateral basis, and regional matters were discussed.

The importance of developing bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the United States within the framework of historical ties and mutual interests across a number of areas was noted during the meeting.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the other side about the situation in the region in the post-conflict period and the ongoing negotiations on the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It was recalled that Azerbaijan, as the initiator of the main elements of the peace process with Armenia, is an interested party in establishing peace and stability in the region.

Despite significant progress on the draft agreement, the importance of abandoning the continued claims against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country in the Constitution and legislative acts of Armenia, as well as the necessity of amending the Constitution, was emphasized.

At the same time, it was noted that Armenia’s militarization policy does not serve peace and stability in the region.

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
