No:265/23, Response of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aykhan Hajizada to the question of local media on the views expressed by Andrea Victorin, the Ambassador of the European Union to Armenia
Question: On May 15, during a press conference, the Ambassador of the European Union to Armenia Andrea Viktorin, referring to the statement of the President of the European Council Charles Michel, said that "the rights and security of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh must be ensured" and for this purpose, an "international mechanism" must be created. We would like to know your opinion on this.
Answer: Our position on this matter is well known. The views of the ambassador of the European Union, an attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan contrary to the norms and principles of international law, are unacceptable.
The Karabakh region is the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan, and like other ethnic minorities living in Azerbaijan, the rights and security of Armenian residents will be ensured within Azerbaijan's internal legislation.
Azerbaijan's efforts to establish a dialogue with the Armenian residents in the aforementioned direction must not be hindered, prejudices against our territorial integrity and sovereignty must be ceased.
