No:218/25, Press release on the election of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Executive Board of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat)
30 May 2025 14:00
Within the framework of the regular session of the Assembly of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) held on 30 May in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, the Republic of Azerbaijan was elected for the first time as a member of the UN-Habitat Executive Board.
The UN-Habitat Executive Board is the main decision-making body of the Programme operating between sessions. The Board consists of 36 countries. Our membership in this prestigious UN structure will cover the period of 2025–2029.
Cooperation between UN-Habitat, which specializes in sustainable urban development and human settlements, and Azerbaijan has been developing dynamically in recent years. A clear example of this was the holding of the World Habitat Day (WHD23) of UN-Habitat in Azerbaijan in 2023. In addition, Azerbaijan will host the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), a global UN event, on 17–22 May 2026.
