No:210/25, Press release on the visit of Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiyev to the United Mexican States

On 23 May 2025, the delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chief Negotiator for COP29 Yalchin Rafiyev visited the United Mexican States.

 

Within the framework of the visit, meetings were held with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights Enrique Ochoa Martinez, Mexico’s Chief Climate Negotiator Camila Zepeda, and at one of Mexico’s leading think tanks, the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations (COMEXI).

 

During the meeting held with Deputy Minister Enrique Ochoa Martinez, satisfaction was expressed with the effective cooperation between Azerbaijan and Mexico within international organizations and other multilateral platforms. Y. Rafiyev provided his Mexican counterpart with detailed information on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities, the steps taken towards the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as upcoming events to be held at Azerbaijan’s initiative and with its hosting within multilateral platforms.

 

The sides also discussed cooperation in the field of combating climate change, and in this context exchanged views on Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of COP29.

 

During the meeting held with Mexico’s Chief Climate Negotiator Camila Zepeda, the historic achievements attained by Azerbaijan within the framework of its COP29 chairmanship were emphasized, and Azerbaijan’s successful chairmanship in this regard was commended.

 

During the meeting held at the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations (COMEXI), views were exchanged on Azerbaijan’s growing role in the region in the context of the new realities formed in the South Caucasus as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020, as well as the country’s multifaceted foreign policy, and its initiatives and activities within international organizations.

 

Azerbaijan’s COP29 chairmanship, the content of the negotiations conducted within this framework, and the results achieved were highly appreciated.
