No:125/24, , Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg

On 18 March 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
During the meeting, issues arising from the cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and NATO, as well as the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov brought to attention that our country attaches importance to further developing cooperation with NATO, especially the joint activities carried out within the framework of the “Partnership for Peace” program, which marks its 30th anniversary this year.
It was noted that our cooperation aimed at contributing to international peace and security is also reflected in reforms, improvements and capacity-building activities in the relevant field.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, referring to the preparations of our country to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) this year, brought to attention that relevant measures are being taken by our side so that the COP29 legacy contributes to combating the threat of climate change.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also provided detailed information on the large-scale restoration and reconstruction works carried out in the post-conflict period, the mine threat as one of the biggest challenges facing the ongoing activities, as well as the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The importance of the support of the international community in combating the mine problem, which poses a threat to the safety of our citizens as well as the ongoing reconstruction works, was emphasized.
It was brought to attention that a historic opportunity exists for advancing the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace agenda, and that our country is making continuous efforts to make maximum use of the opportunities that have arisen in this direction.
Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, while noting the exemplary performance of Azerbaijan in many peacekeeping missions within the framework of cooperation with NATO, also referred to the importance of our country’s contribution to the energy security of the NATO region. In particular, confidence was expressed that our country’s COP29 chairmanship this year will contribute to synergy between energy security and the fight against climate change.
During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
