No:112/26, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and Special Envoy on combating Islamophobia, Miguel Ángel Moratinos

On 11 March, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and Special Envoy on combating Islamophobia, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, who is visiting our country to participate in the Global Baku Forum.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the issues on the agenda of the existing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, the continuation of jointly implemented projects, and prospects for future cooperation.
The sides noted the important role of the existing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations in promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue. The importance of Azerbaijan’s contribution to intercultural dialogue within the framework of the Baku Process and through other international initiatives was emphasized.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side about the regional situation in the post-conflict period, Azerbaijan’s peace efforts, and the peace process with Armenia.
High Representative Miguel Ángel Moratinos highly appreciated Azerbaijan’s active and consistent policy at the international level in the field of intercultural dialogue. He emphasized the importance of continuing the successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and expressed his support for the continuation of joint initiatives in the future.
The sides then discussed issues arising from the increasing military escalation in the Middle East and expressed their concerns over the current situation.
The sides also exchanged views on other bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest, including the promotion of intercultural solidarity in the face of global challenges and opportunities for joint activities in combating Islamophobia.
