On 9 March 2026, a phone call was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan.
During the phone call, the sides exchanged views on the current security situation in the region and the increasing tensions, and discussed the risks arising from recent developments against the background of military escalation and their impact on regional stability.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov condemned the missile attack carried out today against the territory of the Republic of Türkiye and expressed his support for the brotherly people of Türkiye.
It was noted that further expansion of the military escalation could lead to undesirable consequences, and an exchange of views was held on possible steps towards de-escalation and the promotion of a dialogue environment.
It was particularly emphasized that attacks against neighboring countries during the confrontation and any actions directed against the territorial integrity of sovereign states are unacceptable.
It was noted that the Azerbaijan–Türkiye strategic alliance and brotherly relations are of great importance in the current complex geopolitical environment, and within this framework, the importance of continuing mutual consultations and coordination on regional issues between the two countries was emphasized.
During the phone call, an exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
