No:075/25, Press release on the visit of Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov to Geneva

From 23 to 26 February 2025, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, paid a working visit to the city of Geneva to participate in the high-level segment of the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

 

Within the framework of the visit, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov delivered a statement at the high-level segment of the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, and also held a number of high-level bilateral meetings.

 

During his speech, the Deputy Minister elaborated on the regional situation in the post-conflict period, the work carried out within the framework of the “Great Return,” the current state of the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization process, existing challenges, including claims against the territorial integrity of our country enshrined in the Constitution of Armenia, and responded to the allegations raised by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia during his statement.

 

Information was also provided on the legal proceedings initiated by Azerbaijan in international courts regarding war crimes committed by Armenia during the former conflict, efforts to clarify the fate of missing persons, the fight against the mine threat, as well as initiatives aimed at restoring the rights of our compatriots expelled from the territories of present-day Armenia.

 

During the visit, the Deputy Minister also held meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Carlos Ramiro Martínez Alvarado; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Vijitha Herath; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Abdulla Khaleel; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, Arzu Rana Deuba; the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica, Alejandro Solano Ortiz; and the Executive Director of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Noura Zaid Al-Rashoud.

 

During the meetings, issues arising from bilateral and multilateral relations, the current regional situation in the post-conflict period, our country’s reconstruction and peace efforts, Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), and opportunities for cooperation within this framework were discussed.

 

The meetings also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
