On 28 February 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, within the framework of his working visit to Germany.
During the meeting, the existing cooperation agenda between the two countries, as well as the current state and prospects of the normalization and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia were discussed.
The Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, noted the importance of relations between the two countries and conveyed her congratulations on Azerbaijan hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that the contacts between Azerbaijan and Germany in recent times have been characterized by a dynamic nature, and highlighted the importance of discussions held at the highest level, particularly within the framework of the Munich Security Conference.
Gratitude was expressed for Germany’s support and initiative in organizing negotiations aimed at the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan is determined to advance the normalization and peace agenda. At the same time, he noted that the disruption of the stability that had lasted for nearly five months by Armenia was aimed at undermining the peace process.
At the same time, it was emphasized that Armenia’s continued territorial claims against Azerbaijan in its Constitution and legislation, as well as its non-constructive position and rhetoric in political and legal processes, are unacceptable.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
