Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received a delegation led by President of the Parliament of Montenegro Ivan Brajovic.
Expressing satisfaction with his visit to Azerbaijan, I.Brajovic stated that he had very interesting and fruitful meeting with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
I.Brajovic by noting the fact that the influence of Azerbaijan is growing at the international stage and Azerbaijan hosts a number of prominent international events mentioned the importance of holding the first international session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's Silk Road Support Group in Baku and expressed the confidence that fruitful discussions held within the framework of the session would fundamentally contribute to the development of dialogue and cooperation.
The sides noted with satisfaction that the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Montenegro develops in the spirit of constructive dialogue and understanding. In this regard, the sides stated that Montenegro is a reliable partner of Azerbaijan in the Euro-Atlantic institutions mentioning that the views of two countries on the issues in international agenda coincide and they support each other within the international organizations .
At the meeting it was noted that parliamentary diplomacy plays a special role in the development of friendship between Azerbaijan and Montenegro. It was emphasized that the parliamentary delegations of the two countries successfully cooperate within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
The sides exchanged views over about the negotiation process mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs on the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The president of the Parliament of Montenegro said his country supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan and the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the Minsk Group on the basis of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov pointed out that this fair position of Montenegro on the settlement of the conflict is highly appreciated. He noted that the entire international community, including the European Union, fully supports Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
At the meeting the sides touched upon cooperation in energy, transport, investment, tourism and education sectors. Minister Elmar Mammadyarov briefed the guests on the development of the Southern Gas Corridor, TANAP and TAP projects and pointed out the potential for cooperation on energy issues with Montenegro.
At the meeting the sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
