A telephone conversation held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Anita Anand.
During the call, deep concern was expressed regarding the ongoing military escalation and increasing security risks in the region.
The importance of preventing further escalation, intensifying diplomatic efforts, and ensuring full respect for the norms and principles of international law was underscored.
Minister Anita Anand expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for facilitating the transit of Canadian citizens through Azerbaijani territory during the military escalation in Iran in June of last year. The prompt and humanitarian support provided at that time was highly appreciated.
Given the current security situation, views were also exchanged on potential arrangements for the use of the Azerbaijan border for the evacuation of Canadian citizens from Iran, if necessary.
