The final online consultations on the establishment of the International Turkic Language Day were held on February 10, 2021. The meeting was attended by the National Commissions for UNESCO of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Türkiye, the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking Countries, the International Organization of Turkic Culture, the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, officials of the International Turkic Academy and representatives of relevant Turkish government agencies.
Our country was represented at the event by Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Secretary-General of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO Elnur Sultanov. He noted that the initiative to establish the International Turkic Language Day was highly appreciated by our country and we were ready to support the intensification of the process of consideration of the issue at UNESCO. The Secretary General stressed that this initiative is important for the preservation and transmission of the common historical and cultural values of the Turkic-speaking countries to future generations.
During the meeting, the issues related to the establishment of the International Turkic Language Day were widely discussed, and it was agreed to carry out relevant work and increase joint efforts.
As it is known, relevant international language days are celebrated in order to promote the international recognition of languages. In this regard, the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO has initiated the establishment of the International Turkic Language Day within UNESCO.
