No:048/26, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia

On 25 February 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Azerbaijan, Abdinur Dahir Fidow.
During the meeting, the Ambassador presented copies of his credentials to Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. The Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan. Confidence was expressed that Somalia’s first resident Ambassador to Azerbaijan would spare no effort to further advance bilateral relations between the two countries.
The current state and prospects for the development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Somalia were discussed.
Satisfaction was expressed with the intensification of contacts and the increase in mutual visits between the two countries in recent years. In this regard, the visit of the President of Somalia to Azerbaijan in February last year, the subsequent visit of an Azerbaijani government mission to Somalia, during which the first political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs were held, as well as the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia to Azerbaijan in June, were recalled with appreciation.
The importance of utilizing the existing potential to further deepen cooperation between Azerbaijan and Somalia in the political, economic, humanitarian, agricultural, energy and other fields was emphasized.
In addition to bilateral relations, the importance of cooperation within multilateral international and regional platforms, particularly within the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement, was underscored. In this context, Somalia’s non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council for the period 2025–2026 was noted with appreciation in terms of cooperation.
Azerbaijan’s full support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia within its internationally recognized borders was once again reaffirmed.
A detailed exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest was also included in the meeting.
