On 10 February 2025, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Marko Štucin.
During the meeting, issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Slovenia, as well as the regional and international security situation were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, recalling the meeting held with his counterpart Tanja Fajon within the framework of the 31st meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council, noted the importance of such contacts in contributing to discussions on the prospects for the development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation and emphasized the importance of developing dialogue in this direction.
It was noted that last year our country was also represented at the Bled Strategic Forum held in Slovenia at the level of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and that the Forum is an important platform for the exchange of views among state officials, representatives of think tanks and media representatives.
During the meeting, it was brought to attention that it is necessary to utilize the existing prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy security, trade, business, transport and communications, and that Azerbaijan’s strategic position in the Middle Corridor provides impetus to benefit from these opportunities.
Cooperation between our countries in the fields of education and humanitarian affairs was discussed, including the fact that our compatriots who made significant contributions to the liberation of Slovenia during the Second World War, especially heroes such as the legendary Mehdi Huseynzade (Mikhaylo), form the basis of the ties and closeness between our peoples in the modern period.
The other side was also provided with detailed information on the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, the large-scale reconstruction and restoration works carried out in the liberated territories, and demining efforts, and it was brought to attention that humanitarian demining is one of the new areas for cooperation.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, referring to the current state of the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization and peace agenda, noted that despite a number of achievements and agreed provisions, the continuing territorial claims against our country in Armenia’s Constitution, as well as the rapid armament of this country in a spirit of revanchism, pose a threat to regional peacebuilding.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
On the same day, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Slovenia were also held under the leadership of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Fariz Rzayev and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Marko Štucin.
