29 January 2025 12:54
On 29 January 2025, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov within the framework of the 2nd trilateral meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy/Trade and Transport of Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, issues related to the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan alliance, opportunities for expanding bilateral, including multilateral cooperation, as well as the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period were discussed.
It was noted that the past year was marked by the signing of the treaty establishing allied relations between the two countries, and hope was expressed that the current year, 2025, in which we celebrate the 30th anniversary of our diplomatic relations, will be marked by the further enrichment of the political, economic, trade, energy, transport and communications, cultural and humanitarian aspects of our alliance.
The importance of the high-level dialogue between the leaders of the two countries, the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Supreme Interstate Council, the Intergovernmental Commission, and the political consultations mechanism in the development of the alliance based on brotherhood and friendship between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan was emphasized.
The importance of further strengthening cooperation and mutual support within the framework of regional and international organizations, including the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of Turkic States, the Economic Cooperation Organization, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, as well as other multilateral formats, was emphasized.
It was noted that the strategic partnership agreement signed between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) held in our country last year on the development and transmission of green energy is one of the important steps taken towards the development of regional energy, transport and communications.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed his counterpart in detail about reconstruction, restoration, demining, as well as peace efforts in the region in the post-conflict period. It was brought to attention that the obstacles to advancing the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, including the continuing territorial claims against our country in Armenia’s constitution and the rapid armament of this country, pose a threat to the normalization agenda.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
Subsequently, the “Comprehensive Program of Activities on the Celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan” was signed and approved by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
