No:017/26, Press Release on the Meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska

On 22 January 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Radmila Šekerinska.

 

During the meeting, the existing cooperation agenda and prospects within the framework of the partnership between Azerbaijan and NATO, the work carried out under the partnership mechanisms, as well as regional and international security issues were discussed.

 

The parties noted the importance of cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO, emphasizing that the dialogue and interaction implemented within the existing partnership framework contribute positively to regional security. Opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO in the fields of demining, cybersecurity and other areas were reviewed.

 

Azerbaijan’s experience of participation in NATO-led peace support operations and missions, its close support to the processes in Afghanistan, reforms in the defense sector, and efforts undertaken to ensure interoperability were commended. The visit to our country last November of a mission composed of the Permanent Representatives of NATO member states was recalled with satisfaction.

 

During the meeting, information was also provided on the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization process, diplomatic efforts and confidence-building measures aimed at ensuring sustainable and lasting peace in the region, the agreements reached within the framework of the 8 August Washington Summit and peace prospects, as well as regional transport and connectivity projects.

 

The parties also exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
