On 22 January 2025, a telephone conversation was held between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom David Lammy.

 

During the telephone conversation, the prospects of the cooperation agenda between the two countries, as well as the current regional situation, the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the current state of the peace process were discussed.

 

The British Minister first conveyed his condolences once again in connection with 20 January – Nationwide Day of Mourning and the tragic crash of our aircraft that operated the Baku-Grozny flight on 25 December. He stated that the United Kingdom is always ready to provide support in the investigation of the causes of the tragedy and the inquiry process.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed his gratitude for the condolences and the solidarity shown, and provided information on the work carried out to investigate the causes of the plane crash.

 

It was noted that relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom in political, economic, alternative energy, humanitarian and other fields have broad prospects, and the importance of intensifying mutual visits and political dialogue in the development of relations, as well as further deepening the partnership between the two countries, was emphasized.

 

Congratulating our country on successfully hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the British Minister emphasized the importance of continuing joint cooperation in combating climate change.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, providing information on the current situation in the region and the peace process, brought to attention that despite significant progress on the peace agreement and delimitation, the continuing territorial claims in Armenia’s constitution constitute the main obstacle to the process.

 

During the telephone conversation, an exchange of views was also held on other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
