Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov met with H.E. Raimonds Vejonis, President of the Republic of Latvia who is attending the 5th Global Baku Forum in Azerbaijan.
At the meeting, they expressed their satisfaction with the dynamic development of relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia and stressed that shared political will provide for expansion of bilateral cooperation.
They exchanged views on the development of bilateral cooperation in the fields of industry, agriculture, transport, environment, education and tourism spheres as well as launching direct flights between the two countries.
President Raimonds Vejonis touched upon the issue of cooperation within international organisations between the two countries.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov informed about negotiations between EU Commission and the Republic of Azerbaijan on the preparation of strategic partnership agreement. President Raimonds Vejonis noted that his country supports the expansion of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov expressed his gratitude to the President of Latvia for Latvia's support to the just and fair position of our country on the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in compliance with the principles of international law, particularly in the framework of territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of internationally recognized borders of the states.
