Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the newly appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Azerbaijan Carol Crofts.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov congratulated Ambassador Crofts on being appointed to Azerbaijan and wished her success in the future activities. The Ambassador presented a copy of her credentials to Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.
Ambassador Carol Crofts noted that she will make all necessary efforts to contribute to furthering of bilateral ties.
At the meeting, the sides expressed satisfaction with the existing bilateral cooperation. Talking about the importance of cooperation in the energy sector, the sides stressed the long-term and reliable partnership between Azerbaijan and BP as exemplary. The sides also noted that the activity of the joint intergovernmental commission and increasing intensity of high-level visits plays an important role in the development of ties.
Giving the information about the negotiation process on the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov reported that Vienna meeting has created favorable opportunities to start for the comprehensive and substantive process based on the step by step approach. He noted that the escalation which happened at the beginning of April with the instigation and provocation of Armenia proved once more that the status quo is unsustainable and unacceptable. Minister stressed that to change the status quo and to achieve the progress in the settlement of conflict the fact of occupation has to be ceased and Armenian troops have to be withdrawn from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
