Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation led by Nikos Kotzias, Foreign Minister of the Hellenic Republic who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan
At the meeting, the sides expressed satisfaction with current status of development between Azerbaijan and Greece, and emphasized the role of mutual visits of the head of states in this regard.
The ministers exchanged views on the ways of further development of the relations in various fields between the two countries and mentioned the great potential in this direction.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov briefed his Greece counterpart about the projects implemented with the participation of Azerbaijan in the fields of energy and transport, and highlighted the importance and role of our country in linking of the transportation corridors between Europe and Asia.
Touching upon the situation in the South Caucasus region, Elmar Mammadyarov highlighted that Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict still remains due to an aggressive and non-constructive position of Yerevan and added that this constitutes major threat for peace and security in the region. He also emphasized that for the settlement of the conflict, first and foremost, Armenia must withdraw its occupying forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. Minister underlined the importance of implementation of relevant four resolutions of the UN Security Council on this conflict and respecting to the international law.
Nikos Kotzias noted that Greece and Azerbaijan have close friendly relations, and mentioned the importance of effective use of existing capacity for the further development of relations between the two countries. He said that the Greece stands ready to make its own contribution to the development of relations between Azerbaijan and EU, as well as NATO.
Furthermore, Minister Nikos Kotzias touched the importance of the Trans-Adriatic pipeline which will export Azerbaijan’s natural gas to the European markets, and noted the significance of this project in meeting the natural gas requirements of a number of European countries including Greece.
The sides also had exchange of views on cooperation within the international organizations, the format and further perspectives of relations between EU and Azerbaijan, the regional and global issues of mutual interest.
