Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation led by Halil İbrahim Akça, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO)
At the meeting the current status of cooperation between ECO and Azerbaijan was discussed, and the sides exchanged views on the development prospects of the relations.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov noted the great potential in the fields of trade, information and communication technologies, transport, power engineering, in particular production and transmission of the electricity between member states. Minister Elmar Mammadyarov mentioned that development of transport infrastructure which links member states would be useful and in this regard highlighted special importance of Qazvin-Rasht-Astara-Astara and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway routes for the region.
Halil İbrahim Akça said that this is his first official visit as a Secretary General, and commended the contributions of Azerbaijan to the activity of the ECO and emphasized the interest of the organization in enhancement of cooperation with our country. Secretary General also underlined the intention to create an independent research centre, as well as implementation of common projects between ECO Secretariat and member states.
At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the issues of mutual interest.
